What we repair on an edge of dock leveler
Most of what fails on an EOD is repairable. Before you replace a unit, let us look at it.
The seized hinge — the repair most companies won’t do
The top plate hinges, and in most models lip hinges as well, are made of round tubing sections with a 3/4″ or 1″ pin running through them the full width of the leveler. Rust fuses the pin to the tube hinges and the plate stops moving. You can’t place it onto a trailer and you can’t bring it back up to its stored position.
Ask most companies and you’ll get a quote for a new leveler. We cut the hinge tubing open along its full width, open it like a clam, flush the rust out, lubricate it, work the pin free, weld the seams back up and put it back in service.
That repair costs a fraction of a new unit and we’ve been doing it for years.
Springs and spring assemblies
Broken and expired springs, upper and lower arms, and the rest of what makes up an EOD spring kit. When a leveler gets hard to lift or won’t hold position, this is almost always why.
Lip and operating parts
Operating link — the receptacle the bar goes into to deploy the leveler. Lip extend arms that push the lip out onto the trailer. Clevises and weldments that nobody stocks, which we fabricate ourselves in our own shop.
Dock bumpers knocked off by trailers
Bumper blocks take the hit and eventually break away from the dock face. We straighten them, grind the old weld off the block and the face, then reposition, weld and anchor them. Every weld gets touched up with anti-rust paint.
Levelers pulled loose from the building
When the welds holding the leveler to the dock face break, we straighten it, clean the surfaces, reposition and re-weld.
Preventive maintenance
Detail clean, full lubrication, adjustments, replacement of minor wear parts, then check and test under load. Scheduled maintenance is cheaper than a truck sitting at your door.
